Extra Info- Technically I'm originally from that beloved hive of villainy called Infinite Story, but I abuse my dual citizenship a lot because I'm a no good dirty mercenary.
If for some baffling reason you ever have the urge to read something really offensive, it can be found here: http://www.infinite-story.com/story/1665/

Some stories have a message...kinda...
Additional Notes:
WARNING! (The real one)
This story is pretty offensive, it can get graphic and downright ruthless at times so if you don’t like that sort of humor, don’t read this story. But if you read it anyway don’t complain if you get offended, I did warn you and keep in mind it IS only a story.
Also, don't bother trying to "win" either. You can't. Just heed the moral lessons you may learn.
Old monsters never die, they just get meaner.
Additional Notes:
There are history links for each monster (In the form of your character's memories) and while not neccessary to understand the story, they do provide deeper background. Ignore whatever you might know about various old movie monsters, you'll find that most of their histories are much different in this story.
You may find that this story has a movie feel to it which is appropriate considering the characters involved. The langauge (and violence) can get graphic sometimes, so if you don't like that sort of thing, you probably shouldn't read it.
Finally this isn't really a "win/lose" type story, however there are definitely good/bad/neutral endings. A few endings are even "really good" though they won't be spelled out as such.
One musician's tale in a dying world
Additional Notes:
If you’ve read and liked Necromancer, then this might interest you as this story takes place during the same course of events of that story. (Not a prequel, not a sequel, but an equal!)
However, this story is definitely more “story” than “game”. In fact you shouldn’t even bother reading it if you’re intent on “winning”. You can’t. That being said, there is a “true ending” to this story and you’ll probably know if you get it. If you do get it, you can consider it a “win” if you like.
There are a few points in the story where there are links that lead to “Letters to Home”. While not necessary to understand the story, they do provide a little more insight into the protagonist’s thoughts and feelings on various situations.
Carnivals aren't all fun and games.
Additional Notes:
While there is only one spot that contains extra histories for this story, it's basically the background information of all the major characters and factions. It's strongly recommended that these are read due to the fact that your character will be interacting with most of these folks in his attempts to successfully accomplish his task(s).
This story has a very factional feel to it, so choose your allegiances carefully to get one of the better endings.
If you see a bright light, duck and cover!
Additional notes:
I should point out that this story can be very long assuming you're not dying. Years pass and your surroundings will most likely change. You may very well live a life time in the story if you're lucky. You will also experience a completely different adventure depending on how you escaped the initial nuclear strike. (Assuming you do survive it.)
As with any of my writings, the "story" comes before the "game". However, this story was written in a "game like" format. So while there isn't a complex inventory and all of that, you can technically "win" by getting one of the 4 special endings. (You'll know if you get one because you'll get an epilogue)
This one's for the kids, no really!
Additional Notes:
This story has clear cut win/lose endings. There is nothing excessively unusual about this story, it's just a simple "children's story".
(Yes, you can still die in it)
Underneath the sickness there's love...
Additional Notes:
WARNING!
This story contains a lot of graphic content, if you are offended by ultra violence, explicit sexual descriptions, tons of swearing, blasphemy, inappropriate dark humor, and brutal misanthropy in general then DO NOT read this story!Of course now that I’ve mentioned all the things it contains, you’ll probably read it anyway, you sick little monkey. Well don’t complain if you get offended, I did warn you and keep in mind it IS only a story.
This also isn't really a "win/lose" type story. While there are some endings better than others, this is basically just a tale about a very twisted man and his very twisted lifestyle.
Additional Notes:
This story is definitely more "story" than "game", however there are two distinct paths that can be followed, each with their own pitfalls and additional choices. There is also "one true" ending in which can be considered a "win" (You'll know if you got it, because you'll get an epilogue)
This story can get long, and assuming you're surviving, years do pass in it and you and your environment will change. There are a few points in the story where there are links that lead to more background information on various people and things. While not completely necessary to understand the story, they do give you more insight into it. The text that accompanies some of the pics are also done for similar purposes (Your journal entries, personal thoughts, letters written to you, etc)
Humanity never changes...
Additional Notes:
There are links leading to various background information and your character's current thoughts throughout the story. In some cases these may provide greater insight since some mysterious things can occur in this story.
There are also several endings varying in degrees of good/bad/neutral outcomes. Technically there is one ultimate "winning" ending, but it isn't labeled as such.
Emotions can be wonderful or dangerous...
Additional Notes:
This story has a few bits that are probably a bit on the disturbing side. Not many, but they are there in places. So if you don't like that sort of thing, you probably shouldn't read it.
This story in general is probably a bit odd and less verbose than most of my other stories. There are also several endings varying in degrees of good/bad/neutral outcomes. While there are some endings better than others, this is basically just the tale of a teenager who definitely has some issues.
Because Basement Dwellers are people too!
Additional Notes:
This story is three stories in one. Your first choice will lead to a separate tale of a different “basement dweller”. Each one is mostly different in tone.
Ebay Escapist is weird and random. It’s the least verbose of the three. (Or my stories in general)
Good Girl is the longest and most descriptive of the three. There is some weirdness going on here too, but is mostly kept much more in "reality". There is a cast of characters link in the beginning to help you keep up with who’s who.
Anime Addict has a lot of offensive language and humor, so if you don't like that sort of thing you shouldn’t read this one.
In all the tales there are several endings varying in degrees of good/bad/neutral outcomes. While there are some endings better than others, these are basically just tales of basement dwellers.
Yee Haw! It's a trailer park life for me!
Additional Notes:
This story has a ton of offensive langauge and humor so if you don't like that sort of thing, you probably shouldn't read it. Though given the setting, the language used is pretty accurate.
This also isn't really a "win/lose" type story. While there are some endings better than others, this is basically just a tale about a typical day of a degenerate that lives in a trailer park.

MOMMY!!! on 9/1/2010 7:50:19 PMYeah he left an "awesome" comment on Necromancer recently. The weird thing though is I checked and the count column went up by one for the "8s" rather than the "1s".
I guess Jeff's theory on him a few posts above are correct, but not really surprising due to the obsessive way he's been trying to get my attention in thread after thread.

Yeah he posted a thread like before which got deleted, I'm actually surprised it took him this long to make another one.
I did get a message from him titled "LOL" but I decided it was too long so I just deleted without even reading it.

How to make this plausible?

Maybe the rulers of this religious organization are actually a splinter group of the original underground group thus making it difficult to just change the laws through conventional means since they know all the same underhanded legal tricks too and probably would've already taken steps to villify those that would dare speak out openly against said religion.
Also if this religious group is run by former underground members, they would be considered hated enemies/traitors/upstarts, which makes sense that the underground would want to get rid of this religious group completely instead of just trying to take it over as there own.
Advice on better stories? Inspiration?

It took me around 5 months. I got the idea for it in the month of December and I finished it the end of April/beginning of May. I might've been quicker with it, but there was an IS contest going on which I think was due in February or March, so I ended up stopping what I was doing temporarily to write Geek.
There was also the usual changing/adding/deleting stuff around which took up time too since I was trying to get everything just right. (And looking for damn pictures!)
Advice on better stories? Inspiration?

I created Ground Zero before Fallout 3 came out (It was on IS before I transferred it over here), but I certainly got the idea for the two major shelter branches from the older Fallout games.
But yeah I try to get a core idea and then think of major story-line branches which will usually have a proper ending as if I was just writing a linear story. I then take any minor branches and think of an "alternate reality" story-line. These will vary in length of course (More on this later).
In keeping with the core idea, I usually have an idea of certain "events" occurring in the story-line. Usually these event will occur regardless of what you're doing, but you might encounter them differently.
For example in Ground Zero there are several events that will occur. Three of the four major branches (along with the 5th "unofficial" one) intertwine at a few points but they play out a little differently mainly because YOU weren't there to directly affect those events. (If you didn't enter the community shelter for example, it ends up being taken over by a cult leader.)
One thing though is to try to limit the branches to an extent otherwise you end up getting overwhelmed with storyline possibilities and you never get finished. (I'm having that little problem right now with two stories I've been working on for awhile)
I usually try to set limits based on how far away the alternate reality story-line branches are straying from the "true story-line." The ending doesn't necessarily have to kill the character off though. Sometimes this is really easy like with Necro. There's a point where you could possibly become a vampire (and lose all your other powers in the process). Technically I could've continued the story from that point of view, but the story is called "Necromancer" not "Vampire", so it ended there.
With GZ I used where the protagonist takes refuge from the initial nuke attack as a template. If you hid in the experimental shelter then the major story-line and all the action is going to take place there. Leaving it for whatever reason ends the story since you've effectively left the major storyline branch.
For a short example, Love SICK's storyline branches end when the doctor's sister gets home from work. Lol.

Pictures in Storygames
on 8/8/2010 9:25:11 PM
As a general rule I can take or leave pictures. I only really used them for GZ and Necro since I was sort of experimenting with using them. I probably won't bother doing it again, mainly because it's really damn difficult to find that exact picture that you're looking for.
I think I probably searched for every post apocalyptic pic on the net when I was writing GZ and still didn't necessarily find what I needed. In some cases I used something else instead (Hey zombie pics get the point across that mutants ate you just as well). I was using a lot of movie and video game pics, comics as well. Most of it from the 80s since there was a shitload of Mad Max rip offs and quite few video games with post apocalyptic themes (Used the original Fallouts quite a bit obviously). Of course if I was making Ground Zero now I'd probably find pictures a lot easier given stuff like Fallout 3, Borderlands, Book of Eli, The Road and a bunch of similar stuff has come out since then!
Necro was sort of easier. It was a lot shorter for one thing and there's LOTS of fantasy pics out there. My main thing was just finding the right kind of cloaked faceless figure to represent the Necromancer in certain parts. Plus I was adding text to certain pics. The pic on the front with the Necromancer and his queen before you actually click on the story was shopped so that the cloaked figure and that girl are together. I'm still sort of surprised how good I managed to make it look considering I was using MS Paint and my art skills are crap. (Hence why I wasn't just drawing this stuff to begin with)
I also felt it was important to add a pic to every page I created too, so that it wouldn't look inconsistant. I almost added pics to Death Song when I was doing that one, but ultimately I was having a harder time finding the right ones for certain pages so I decided it would be easier to forget the pics and just leave the story pictureless.

Here's a site that might be of some minor interest.
http://iwl.me/
You copy some of your writing and it tries to analyze who you write like. Probably not very accurate, still it provides some interesting results.
Here's what I got when I posted the first page (or second page in some cases) of my stories.

At this point I'm wondering if these AWESOME threads are going to be an ongoing "series"
I guess I should be waiting in anticipation for the thrilling "ENDMASTER is an asshole" installment.
